And I empathize.
I have taught thousands of beginner golfers to play the game and I have heard all the questions (there is no dumb one).
I want to encourage people to play the game and I think the first step is the hardest.
Just having an idea of what you are doing when you go to your first lesson or the first time you go to the golf course, is invaluable.
to help new golfers, like you, take that first step with confidence.
At the end of the series of lessons, you will know
Whatever you decide to do, it really is important to get instruction from a good teacher.
This series is designed to eliminate the intimidation of simply taking that first step and to make sure you get solid professional advice.
You have 9 video lessons to ensure you show up to the golf course looking good and knowing what to do. Check them out below.
All new golfers are concerned that they dress appropriately when arriving at the course. In this video you learn a few key details that will make sure you show up in style.
Knowing what to do when you arrive at the golf course can be intimidating. In this video, I show you what to do when you drive in, how to drop off your golf bag, what to expect in the locker room, and making sure that you check in in the golf shop.
Ok…I assume nothing and that includes driving a golf cart. Most new students don’t ask me what to do but I can see it in their faces that they are not clear on how to manage a golf cart. When I volunteer a few key details to driving a cart, they are grateful…so I included a short video here, just in case you find it helpful.
If you want to play golf and improve, you will need to discover the practice area. This is also called the driving range or practice range. This is the area where golfers warm up by hitting a few balls before they play or where they spend some time working on their golf game.
It all starts with how you hold the club or your grip. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to learn a proper grip and to review it frequently to make sure you are on point.
Your posture over the ball is important so that you can make a repeatable and powerful swing. It establishes your distance from the ball and when set up properly, makes your swing much more repeatable. PLUS, if you stand over the ball properly – you look like an instant golfer.
Here I show you a few simple swing moves that you can easily repeat. This is a super way to get started so that you can get the ball up in the air. The key is to keep it simple, swing at a pace you can keep your balance and learn to brush the grass. You can do this!
A little review to help remind you where to put your focus and how to keep it simple before we head to the golf course.
Before we head to the golf course, I want to make sure you have some golf terms and understand the different parts of the course. This helps put some context to the game and what we are trying to do when we play.
Alright…it is time to play! Come along with me as I walk you through playing a golf hole and what to expect. You will learn how to start and finish a hole and some basic etiquette.
“I can't thank Kathy enough for not just teaching me the basics, but the special pro tricks to improve my game. I didn't even know which club to use! She breaks down the advice and give practical tips in a way that is fun and easy to understand.”
Just because someone plays the game doesn’t mean they know how to teach it.
As a teacher, I am constantly correcting well-intended yet poor golf advice to eager-to-learn new golfers.
I watch too many golfers struggle because they never got started properly with sound instruction.
Private instruction can get expensive especially if it is to fix someone’s bad advice.
I want to make the entry for you to get going is super reasonable and full of tremendous value.
Let me show you how to get started the right way.

What if I don't belong to a golf course?
Most people don’t belong to a golf course or club. Chances are that there is a public course near you that you have access to.
In the short term, you want to find a place to hit some practice balls. You can look for a golf driving range or golf practice facility near you. Google can tell you.
Also, I am going to share a few ways that you can practice indoors in some upcoming emails.
